Chalk Group Lithostratigraphy: Northern England - Wootton Marls

These are two thin (c. 12 mm) marls bounding a c. 0.45 m thick interval of massive chalk, locally with a tabular flint (Wood & Smith, 1978). The marls mark the change from solid flints (below) to carious flints (above), but locally the lower marl is replaced by a marly plexus or a tabular flint (Wood & Smith, 1978).
