Chalk Group Lithostratigraphy: Northern England - Upper Orbirhynchia Bed

A thin unit of pale nodular limestones, with an acme of the brachiopod Orbirhynchia mantelliana and large ammonites of the genus Austeniceras (Gaunt et al., 1992). A similar horizon was described in East Anglia. This Orbirhynchia acme equates with the highest of the three O. mantelliana-rich bands recognised in the Lower Chalk at Folkestone by Gale (1989).
