These four marls, each c. 20 mm thick, occupy a c. 3 m interval of massive, inoceramid shell rich chalk (Gaunt et al., 1992). In their stratigraphical position, in the lower M. coranguinum Zone, they appear to compare with the Belle Tout Marls of Sussex.

Macrofossil Biozonation: basal M. coranguinum Zone (= Lower Hagenowia rostrata Zone of Whitham, 1991)

Correlation: see Correlation with other UK Chalk Group successions
