Chalk Group Lithostratigraphy: Northern England - First Main Flint

This bed comprises closely spaced nodular flints with a complex morphology, and locally may appear as a semicontinuous flint extending for a metre or more laterally (Gaunt et al., 1992). It is the first really conspicuous flint seen up section in the Welton Chalk, although smaller, less well developed nodular flints occur in the underlying couple of metres.
