Chalk Group Lithostratigraphy: Northern England - Danes Dyke Member
The Danes Dyke Member (stratotype: South Landing to Danes Dyke [TA 231 692 to TA ### ###]), c. 67 m thick, is softer than the underlying South Landing Member, and comprises alternating beds of hard and softer chalks with stylolitic horizons and locally abundant marcasite nodules (Whitham, 1993). Fossils are locally common in bands, especially crinoid calyx plates, but otherwise rather sparse (Whitham, 1993). The basal marker is the base of East Nook Marl 1, and the member extends up to the base of the Danes Dyke Upper Marl (Whitham, 1993).
Macrofossil Biozonation: upper M. coranguinum Zone (= Upper Hagenowia rostrata Zone of Whitham, 1993), U. socialis Zone & M. testudinarius Zone (pars)
Correlation: see Correlation with other UK Chalk Group successions
