Chalk Group Lithostratigraphy: East Anglia - West Tofts Marl

Named by Ward et al (1968) in the succession c. 4m above the Chalk Rock at Munford, Norfolk, and recognised in the Bury St. Edmunds district, Suffolk as locally comprising a 0.1 m thick marl 0.2-0.3 m above the Chalk Rock (Bristow, 1990). The West Tofts Marl equates with the Ulceby Marl of the northern England Chalk Group succession, and with the Lewes Marl of southern England (Arthurton et al., 1994; Gaunt et al., 1992).
