Age: Early Coniacian to Mid Coniacian.

Macrofaunal correlation: The M. cortestudinarium Zone.

Definition: The interval between the LAD of Stephodinium coronatum to the LAD of Florentinia deanei.

Comments: Stephodinium coronatum has a well established range top close to the base of the M. cortestudinarium Zone (Foucher, 1979; Costa & Davey, 1992). The top of this biozone is also delineated by the LADs of Florentinia tenera and Psaligonyaulax deflandrei (see Foucher, 1979; Costa & Davey, 1992; Foucher & Monteil, 1998). The FAD of Florentinia tenera subdivides this biozone (Foucher & Monteil, 1998).

Lithostratigraphical correlation: The upper Lewes Nodular Chalk Formation (Southern Province), the Burnham Chalk Formation (Northern Province) and the Mackerel Formation (North Sea).
