Tye, A M, Milodowski, A E, and Smedley, P L. 2017. Distribution of natural radioactivity in the environment. British Geological Survey Internal Report, OR/17/001.

The aim of this part of the guidance is to provide information on the variation in background concentrations of naturally occurring radio-nuclides (Th, U and K) in rocks, groundwater, soils in the UK. The review does not aim to calculate background radioactivity as this was undertaken previously for soils, sediments and waters (EA, 2007[1]). However a key aim is to identify processes which may lead to variation from the background concentrations.
