	"The Geological Survey of the United Kingdom were busy in the 1930's re-mapping Dorset and one of those most involved was ~~aSurvey~~ officer who has been completely forgotten. He is Dr.Francis Brian Auburn Welch (1903-1987) who after Cheltenham College and Bristol University (first class honours in geology 1924, Ph.D. 1927) went first as a research assistant to St ~~AndrewsUniversity~~. He joined the BGS in 1931 and was sent to ~~Dorsetwhere~~ his maps made between 1931 and 1936, whether as ~~manu-script~~ field slips at 1/2500 or the published one inch to a mile sheets, like that of Bridport Sheet 327, published in 1940, are ~~mir-acles~~ of geological map-making.
