Massive Carboniferous Limestone (S Zone) forms the almost vertical cliff at St. Vincent&#039;s Rocks and provides a foundation for the Suspension Bridge. Terraced and built-up ground on the right is composed of alternating grits, limestones and shales forming the top of the Carboniferous Limestones Series. The flat-topped cliff in the background (Sea Walls) is composed of crinoidal limestone (Z Zone) and marks the northern end of the gorge. The Avon Gorge is a classic section of the Dinantian Carboniferous Limestone.
