	The first edition of this regional guide was written by the late Dr M. Macgregor and Dr A. G. MacGregor and was published in 1936. A second edition, incorporating minor amendments, was published in 1948. Since then the accumulation of new information and the publication of major research on numerous topics concerning the region has necessitated a complete revision of the text. Mr I. B.
